What is weighing resolution and can I change it?
The resolution (aka readability, division, interval) of a scale refers to the smallest change in weight displayed. Changing this does not change the actual accuracy of your scale, but rather how granular the number displayed on your scale is.
To change your scale's resolution, first enter the settings:
- Tap the button to cycle through the settings and long press the button once you see
- The default Weighing Resolution is set to
- Tap the button to change the resolution to or . How this affects the resolution, depends on if your scale is a Pearl or a Lunar.
Acaia Original Pearl
By default, the Pearl displays 0.1 g increments when you are weighing something between 0-1000 g and displays 0.5 g when you are weighing something between 1000-2000 g.
When the resolution is set to high, the scale weighs in 0.1 g divisions from 0-2000 g.
For example, say your Pearl is in default weighing resolution. You have a 500 g weight and coffee beans that weigh 0.4 g each. If you place your 500 g weight on the scale, it will display "500.0". If you place one coffee bean it will display "500.4" and a second coffee bean will display "500.8".
Now, say you have a 1500 g weight and the same coffee beans. If you place this weight on the scale, it will display "1500.0". But, if you place one coffee bean it will display "1500.0" and a second coffee bean will display "1500.5". Note that in default weighing resolution, it does not display "1500.4" and "1500.8". This is due to the default weighing resolution of the scale being 0.5 g between 1000 - 2000 g. If you changed your resolution to high, the scale would then display "1500.4" and "1500.8" in this scenario.
Acaia Lunar
The default weighing resolution of the Lunar is 0.1 g. When the resolution is set to high, the division will be 0.01 g and the display will show . Note that the hundredths digit of this measurement is more or less an estimation. It is unlikely that a change in ±0.01 g will make a noticeable difference in your coffee, regardless of brew method.
